Carl Armbruster, 77, of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997 in the Care Center of Brakeley Park, Lopatcong Twp. He worked in the Heat Treat Department of the Rock-Drill Division of Ingersoll-Rand Co., Phillipsburg. He started working in January of 1940 as a welder and became a foreman in 1961. He served in that capacity until his retirement in March of 1980. Born October 19, 1919 in Phillipsburg, he was the son of the late Russell and Abigail Hartley Armbruster. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg. He was also a member of the United Steel workers Union, Local 5503, Phillipsburg. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of the Merrill Creek Sportsman's Association, of which he was a life member; the Greenwich Sportsman's Association, the National Rifle Association, the Order of the Flea's and was a past president of the Warren County Rod and Gun Club. He had also served as a Democratic Committeeman during Gov. Robert Meyner's term of office, as well as serving in the Civilian Conservation Corp. in Oregon in 1938. His wife, the former Anna E. Hagerty died April 19, 1990. He is survived by two sons, Thomas C. and Jeffrey A., both at home; one daughter, Carla A. Matviak of Plainfield, NJ., two grandsons and a brother, Arthur of Phillipsburg. Two brothers, Nelson and Thomas both died earlier. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. A calling hour will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services in the funeral home. Private cremation will follow the services and the interment of the cremated remains will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
