John R. "Jack" Bachman, Sr., 66, of Phillipsburg, died Thursday, October 17, 1996 in Easton Hospital, Wilson Boro. He was a former patrolman in Phillipsburg from 1960 to 1972. He then worked for the Garden State Water Company as a meter reader until 1995. Born January 21, 1930 in Alpha, he was the son of the late Theodore Ross and Marie Alice Rossnagle Bachman. He was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Philip and St. James Church, Phillipsburg. He was a corporal with the 88th Military Police Company in the Army during the Korean conflict from 1948 until 1950. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars and the United Nations Medal. He was a life member of the Bernardine-May American Legion Post #457, Phillipsburg; Order of the Fleas, Easton; He was an active fireman from 1956 to 1963, serving as Vice President in 1958, and was a Life and Exempt member of the Lincoln Engine Company #2, Phillipsburg. He was also a member of the Exempt Fireman's Association of Phillipsburg. Survivors include two sons, John R., Jr. of Kaneohe, Hawaii and Timothy J. at home; one daughter, Lori A. Bachman-Simons of Phillipsburg; two sisters, Jean M. Kearns and Dolly Duffy, both of Phillipsburg. He is also survived by a companion, Allison Gruhler, with whom he lived. In addition to his children, he is survived by Allison's three sons, Robert J, of Kearny, NJ, Richard A. of Easton and Jerry F. Gruhler of Phillipsburg. Funeral services will be held 10:15 a.m. Monday from the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:45 a.m. in St. Philip and St. James Church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in St. Philip and St. James Cemetery, Greenwich Twp. Calling hours will be 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
