In Her Own Words...

I spent a few minutes online and searched for Sue's name on a popular search engine and much to my surprise, I found a short biography that Sue submitted about herself to a runners magazine website. Sue submitted this information on Wednesday, February 4, 1998 and I believe you can hear her warmth and humor in what she wrote with a style that was all her own.

Years running: over 20 years

About you: I've been a chiropractic assistant for the past four years. I've been married to my husband Bernie for 19 years and we have two sons, Bernie III whose 18 and Chuck whose 17. Besides running I bowl in a league, play on an over 30 womens soccer team, am a field hockey official and hike, bike, play tennis and racket ball. I like all kinds of sports. I also teach seminars about chiropractic. If it weren't for my chiropractor I probably wouldn't be able to run at all.

Your running: I started running when I graduated from high school because I always played sports and there were no adult teams around at the time so I just started running. I fell in love with it. I've been in over 200 races and have come in last in about half of them. My criteria for entering races is what kind of t-shirt they offer, if they have drawings that everyone is eligible and what kind of food they have at the finish. I've run from a 5k to a marathon. My normal pace is about 12 minute per mile. A little faster in short races, a little slower in longer ones.

Other stuff: A local race the Pfizer five use to give a "Ben Gay" award to the last place male and female finishers. I won the award 3 years in a row until they did away with it. I ran 2 New York marathons in about 6 1/2 hours each. I've come in 10th overall in a race that had 10 participants. I've won first place awards in my age group because no one else was in my age group. I had to finish a race in a stadium where they had turned the clock off and were already giving out the awards. My friends think I'm crazy because I never run any faster. I just like to run.
