David W. Flowers, 36, of Frankfurt, Germany, formerly of Phillipsburg, died Sunday, March 24, 2002 in Germany as a result of an auto accident in Germany on August 30, 2001. David was a civilian fitness instructor for the United States Army in Germany. Previously, he was a Specialist E-4 with the 413th Signal Company in the Army from 1994 until his honorable discharge in 1998. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon. He then served in the United States Army Reserves until February 2002. Born January 1, 1966 in Phillipsburg, David was the son of Laura (Williams) Flowers of Phillipsburg and the late James O. Flowers, Sr. He was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1984, where he was an accomplished athlete of basketball and football. He was named the Express-Times Basketball Player of the Year in 1984. That year, the basketball team set a school record of 23-6 and also won a sectional championship for the second year in a row. After high school, Dave attended Upsula College in East Orange, NJ, where he played basketball four years. After college, he was a high school physical education teacher in Livingston, NJ. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Phillipsburg. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former Songul Tekin and a daughter, April Marie both of Germany; five brothers, James O. Flowers, Jr. and Robert L. Flowers, both of Phillipsburg, Carey J. Williams of Jacksonville, Fla., John D. Williams of Easton, Pa and Mark S. Williams of Egypt, Pa.; seven sisters, Rita A., Gloria A., Laura A., Jean M. and Joan M., all of Phillipsburg, Debra of San Jose, California and Barbara Andrews of Easton, Pa. A service of rememberance will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the Grace Baptist Church, 330 South Main Street, Phillipsburg. The Rev. Carl V. Brown, Sr. will be the officiant for the services. A calling hour will be held from 6:00 p.m. until time of services Monday in the church. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, is handling the arrangements. Burial will be private in the Phillipsburg Cemetery, Phillipsburg, NJ. Memorial contributions to the family will be accepted at the church Monday or may be sent to the family in care of the funeral home |
