Willard H. Jones, 75, of Phillipsburg, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998 upon arrival at Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg. We was a police officer for twenty-five years with the Phillipsburg Police Dept. and retired as the chief of police in 1974. Born June 19, 1922 in Phillipsburg, he was the son of the late Henry L. and Sarah M. Hicks Jones. After his retirement, he worked for McGinley Mills in Phillipsburg for twelve years. He was a signalman first class in the Navy during World War Two. He served with the Pacific Fleet and served on-board the USS Neuendorf, USS St. George, USS Hamlin and USS Counsel. He received the World War Two Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific medal and the American Area Medal. He was a member of the Policeman's Benevolent Association, Local 56, Phillipsburg; the Garnet Booster Club of Phillipsburg; the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association and the National Geographic Society. He and his wife, the former June A. Mondeau observed their forty-seventh wedding anniversary December 1. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Alan W. of Alpha; two daughters, Carol Nye of Mont Clare, PA and Lori B. Miller of Wilson Boro; three brothers, Barclay of High Bridge, NJ, Samuel of Lopatcong and Robert of Phillipsburg; two sisters, Mary Smith of Nokomis, Fla and Sarah Stem of Easton and three grandchildren. Funeral services will he held 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp. Calling hours will be held 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association. |
