Charles Clinton "Charlie" Libby, 86, of Easton, died Wednesday, January 20, 2005 in Easton Hospital. He was a retired postal employee, retiring from the Easton Post Office. Born March 3, 1918 in Easton, he was a son of the late George R. Sr., and Olive R. Miller Libby. He was of the Lutheran faith. Charlie was a private in the Army during World War Two where he was captured by the German Army and held as a Prisoner of War. He served with Company D 157th Infantry Division and had received numerous medals and decorations, including the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War Two Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Marksman Badge with Rifle and Heavy Machine Gun Bar, European African Middle Eastern Medal with Three Bronze Stars and the Prisoner of War Medal. He was proud to be a charter and life member of The Greater Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoner's of War, Inc. He was also a life member of the Lester Pfeffer American Legion Post 611 and the Easton Veterans of World War Two AMVETS Post 17, both in Easton, the 157th Infantry Association, the AEF - Society of the 28th Division and the American Postal Workers Union. Survivors include a sister, Ruth Stiles of Wilson Borough and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, William M. Sr., and George Jr., and three sisters, Madelyn Townsend, Beatrice Binner and Helen Earles. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Tuesday in the funeral home. Military Honors and Burial will take place in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp.
