Walter C. McConnell, Sr., 64, of Phillipsburg, died Thursday, January 17, 2002 in Warren Hospital.

He was a retired van driver for Warren County Senior Citizen Program.

Born July 26, 1937 in Newton, NJ, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Emma Anna Carry McConnell.

He was a Nascar and stock car racing enthusiast.

His wife, the former Ruth Ann Norman died in 1979.

Survivors include a son, Walter C., Jr. of Phillipsburg, Joseph of Harrisburg and Charles; a step-daughter, Joann Norman of the Poconos, a sister, Shirley DiMaio of Hackettstown; five step-grandchildren and two step-great granchildren. A brother Albert and a sister Betty Jane Bangs both died earlier.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St., Phillipsburg. A calling hour will be held from Noon until the time of services Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
