Mildred Poempner

Mildred Poempner, 97, of Phillipsburg, formerly of Whippany, NJ, died Saturday, December 1, 2007 in the Phillipsburg Center.

Mildred and her first husband, the late Alex Kelton, owned and operated a candy store in Newark, NJ and the Roxy Sweet Shop in Irvington, NJ. She later worked as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service for thirteen years until her retirement.

Born January 6, 1910 in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late Abraham and Anna Reese Gottdank.

She enjoyed playing bingo and participating in activities with the Red Hat Society.

She was of the Jewish faith.

Survivors include her son, Sheldon Kelton and his wife, Carol of Lopatcong Township; a sister, Florence Turestky of Lakewood, NJ; two grandchildren, Allan Kelton and Lori Daniskas and two great-grandchildren, Miranda and Matthew Daniskas. Her second husband, Edward Poempner; a daughter, Diane Kelton; a brother, Lawrence and a sister, Ruth Marshia, all died earlier.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Phillipsburg, lead by Rabbi Jonathan H. Gerard, Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Covenant of Peace, Easton, Pa.
