Gladys Runyon

Gladys Runyon, 84, of Phillipsburg, NJ, formerly of South Orange, NJ and Watsontown, Pa, died Tuesday, December 12, 2000 in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg.

She was an elementary school teacher for thirty-six years. The last 23 years of her teaching career was at the So. Orange School Distict in So. Orange, NJ, where she retired in 1971.

Born May 25, 1916 in Dauphin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Verna Crouse Williams.

She was a lifetime member of the Watsontown United Methodist Church, where she was a former organist. She had also attended Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Phillipsburg.

She earned her teaching certificate from Lockhaven University and later earned her Bachelors Degree from Penn State University and her Master Degree in Education from Columbia University.

Her husband, Malvin Runyon died December 17, 1983.

Survivors include two step-daughters, Carole Howe of Berkley Heights, NJ and Patricia Gahm of Springfield, NJ and several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. A brother, Wilbur Williams died earlier.

Funeral services will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 13th in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St., Phillipsburg. Rev. Randy Nelson, pastor of the Phillipsburg Alliance Church, Phillipsburg, will be the officiate of the services. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park in Montgomery, Pa., on Friday, December 15th at 10:00 a.m.
