Office of the Chaplain Dear Mrs. Casey; William Roseberry was in my office yesterday, just after receiving word about your son Charles. He came to me because I am a pastor of his faith and he wanted to express his sympathy to you in your bereavement. However, the news came as such a surprise that he didn't feel up to the task and asked me to write to you. From what William said, he and you son were close friends. I told him that if he felt so badly about it he knew in a small way how you must feel. None can really share a mother's grief at a time like this but we do know Him Who comforts the mournful and binds up the heart of them who are in distress. We who follow our blessed Lord believe in the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Naturally we grieve our losses, but at the same time we want this heavenly treasure for them. We pray, "Thy will be done" and even thought it is hard to accept, his gracious will is being done. My words are little comfort to you and so are William's words, but nor so with the word of our Redeemer when he says, "He that believeth in me; though he were dead, yet shall he live." With these words, then, we extend you our heartfelt sympathy and our prayer for the comfort and strength of the Holy Spirit's presence during the coming days. Faithfully yours, William E. Nye |
