John R. Spieles

John R. Spieles, 33, of Phillipsburg, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 in SCCI Hospital, Wilson Borough.

John had worked for two years as a sales clerk at the former Clover Department Store in the Palmer Mall.

Born September 24, 1969 in Phillipsburg, he was a son of the former Joan A. Moore Spieles and the late Robert Spieles.

John loved music and played the saxophone in the Phillipsburg Middle School and High School bands. He liked Ozzy Osborn and Kiss and partnered with his good friend, Bill Buttner with mobile DJ jobs in the Phillipsburg-Easton area that were broadcast on Oldies 102.3 FM. On the air, John was known as "Johnny Stingray". John enjoyed being with his friends and had fun entertaining them at local karaoke events. In addition to music, John had a love of sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Phillies.

He was proud to have been a member of the Phillipsburg Emergency Squad several years ago.

In addition to his mother, John is survived by a brother, Adam and his wife Bethany of Phillipsburg and two nephews, Adam D. and James R.

A period of visitation and remembrance will be held on Saturday from 10:00 to Noon in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, N.J. Private cremation will follow. In addition, a special night of remembrance and tribute to John, including recordings of John will be aired on locally on Oldies 102.3 FM beginning at 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening.
