We will miss this kind and gentle man. He was an accomplished artist and the only scrimshaw artist we ever knew. He is gone but his art will live on as will his memory in the hearts of those he loved.

I would like to submit a poem that I wrote for Dave Sr. and Dave jr. a few years ago.

Irish pride runs strong in them both
Celtic blood flows in their veins.

They fight against each other every day of their lives,
They fight for each other throughout the ages.

An ancient bond, father to first born son, the tradition lives on.
Heir not only to a name, but to a legacy and memory of kin and clansmen of old.

Honor and loyalty prove their noble blood,
Unrelenting pride is their birthright.

Fires burn in their eyes, passion for life.
The intensity of the flame is the strength of their emotions, it will never die.

To the McKenna family, you have my eternal love and loyalty.
"Pops, you will be missed by all"

I will always remember David, he inspired my so much he love to laugh and make jokes. I knew David a long time and I will miss him very much. My love and friendship will always be there for all the family.

Heart of gold and a mind of a sharp man who will never be forgotten. White doves fly and the sky so blue may you be blessed from the God of your choice.

Love, you all,
Hope and David Smith

Dave has always been a special friend! I will always cherish the good times and memories I have. I know Dave is in a better place now, out of pain and agony. Dave will always be in my heart and memories.

I would like to dedicate this poem I found on the Internet to the McKenna family.

Part of Our Hearts Forever

Could we ever forget your sparkling eyes
or the way you brightened each day,
or your smile which is etched in our memories,
so you're never far away?
Could we ever forget those priceless moments?
The answer, of course, is never.
For you were part of our lives for a brief time,
but you'll be part of our hearts forever.

YOU'RE SMILING DOWN...

While the sun shines warmly on our faces we'll know your smiling down...
As the snow gives us shivers and makes us cold we'll know your smiling down...
As the rain drops fall gracefully to the ground we'll know your smiling down...
As the winds blows strong and bold we'll know your smiling down...
Even as the seasons change from summer, spring, winter, and fall we'll know your smiling down...
cause in our memories and in out hearts your always smiling down...

Has it been this many years? I grew up and moved away and didn't get to see you, family ties sometimes broken but never forgotten. I'm sure everyone has their memories of you, some good, some not so good...mine are of the purest form, through the eyes of a child. That is how I remember you, when I was able to sit on your knee and be in awe of my Big Uncle Dave. I don't remember the stories you shared, just that you shared them with me and I knew that you loved me. If you can take a moment out of your busy afterlife, take a peek down through the clouds at your great-niece...she is a mini-me, and would have loved you as I did.
You are in the best place possible, a place without judgment or pain. I hope you crossed over with ease and I shall expect to see you when it is my time...until then, Uncle Dave, my Irish-Celtic and Native heart will beat stronger knowing I have one more up there on my side.

Your Niece,
Heather (Hessek) Menard
