Dear Joyce, Jeffrey, and Debbie,

I was deeply saddened to hear of Mick's passing. He was such a good man, a wonderful, caring person. He will be sorely missed. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I ran for the first time yesterday, Sunday November 26th, since my dad was admitted to Warren Hospital on November 17th for pneumonia and died a week later, on Black Friday, from esophageal cancer.

I run the five mile loop called The IronTon Rail Trail often. There is an inscription on a large rock that I pass with each run. It's a passage by Henry David Thoreau. It was never more appropriate:

"I did not wish to live what was not life,
living is so dear,
nor did I wish to practice resignation
unless it was quite necessary."

Since he passed, the weather in the Lehigh Valley has been more like the weather in San Diego, where I spent 18 years. I got married there; our son, Tim, was born there. It was the longest period of time that I did not live in the same area as my mom and dad. My wife, Beverly, and I and Tim moved back to the Lehigh Valley to be closer to relatives. Tim would get to know his grandparents. Now his grandfather is gone. There are so many stories to tell about my dad during his lifetime and every individual has his own recollection of my dad, but I think everyone will agree that:

He was a very proud man.
He strived to be perfect in every way- isn't anything worth doing worth doing right- all the time.
No matter how much you did for him, he wanted to do more for you in return.

My son, Tim, said his grandfather would have a good trip to heaven. His soul is already there, shining down on us. He wants us to feel the warmth of his love, just like the warmth of these days in the Lehigh Valley when the weather seems more like a day in San Diego.

I will always miss you.
With all my love, your son,
Jeff
