Dear Aunt Peggy...
Ok, I can spill it. I've kept this secret for oh, about 38 yrs now. I was about 9 yrs old when cousin Johnny took me for a walk one sunny Sunday while he was visiting Nana with his family. As you know, we lived upstairs at the time and always knew when family came to visit Nana. Anyway, that made Johnny around 15 yrs old. He took me to Dick's store on Chamber St. and my next remembrance was standing next to him at the cash register. He handed me a pack of gum and requested a pack of cigarettes from Mr. Dick. As Mr. Dick turned to take them from the shelf, John looked down at me, smiled and said, don't tell Nana I smoke! Well Johnny, I never did tell Nana but whenever your name came up in conversation, this was the memory that came right back to me and to this day, makes me smile. The memory of you trusting your kid cousin with such important information (at that time) made me feel quite proud inside. My Dear Aunt Peggy, at this time I wish nothing else for you except warm proud memories of your son John that when remembered, like me, make you smile.
Much Love to You and your family,
Dianne (Wynkoop) Vevasis & family
