I hadn't seen my Uncle Emaneul in over ten years. The last time I saw him was when my grandmother and his sister, Carmela Mereo Vegso, passed away in 1990.
My most vivid memories of Uncle Emanuel were from when he visited my grandmother in Florida, along with his sister Anne and her husband Tony. I was four years old at the time, and I remember going to Howard's Beach with them, and I lost a tiny flip-flop in the water, and Uncle Emanuel swam with all his might to try and catch the flip-flop. He was unable to catch it, but I remember being very happy that he tried.
He was a kind and gentle man with a very generous heart. Two years before he died, I was able to make contact with him via the phone. Unfortunately I never had a chance to visit him, but I was happy that he knew I loved him.
I wish I had more time to spend with him.
He was a great man, a wonderful husband, a wonderful father, a wonderful grandfather, and a wonderful uncle.
I remember him being very kind and sympathetic to me when my grandmother died in 1990. Out of all the Mereo siblings, he was the most soft-spoken! :)
I love you, Uncle Emanuel.
Please give my grandmother, your sister Carm, a kiss and hug for me. tell her I miss her and love her with all my heart.
I love you all.

Ann Vegso's daughter)
