Jay C. Unangst
Jay C. "Cocky" Unangst,
80, of Harmony Township, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002 in his home.
He was a produce huckster in
the Phillipsburg and Easton area for many years. He also owned
and operated the former Unangst Tydol Service Station at South
Main and Center Streets in Phillipsburg and was a maintenance
worker at Flock Industries in Phillipsburg. He also work for
the former Shillinger's Mill in Stewartsville.
Born March 8, 1922 in Stewartsville,
he was the son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Gaughran Unangst.
He was a member of the Harmony
Presbyterian Church in Harmony Township.
He was a life-long member of
Civilian Conservation Corps.
He was a member of La Societe
Des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux, (The Society of Forty Men and Eight
Horses) Local 650.
He was a member of the Phillipsburg
Area Historical Society, the Greenwich Township Historical Society,
the Oxford Historical Society and the Warren County Historical
Society. He was a former fireman for the Harmony Township Fire
Company and was a former school board member in Harmony Township.
He was also a former member of the Italian-American Pleasure
Club in Phillipsburg.
He was an Army veteran and was
a member of the Mecsey-Bishop American Legion Post 456 in Stewartsville.
His wife, the late Verna Steele
Unangst died in 1984.
He is survived by two sons, Jay
R. of Harmony Township and Bruce A. of Easton, Pa.; a sister,
June Stephens of Lake Isabella, California and five grandchildren.
A son, Donald F. and two brothers, Clair "Barker" and
Eugene "Horsey" all died earlier.
Funeral services will be held
at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289
South Main Street, Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the Lower
Harmony Cemetery, Route 519, Harmony Township. Calling hours
will be held from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral
home.
