Rose J. Zammatore

Rose J. Zammatore, 78, of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998 in Warren Hospital.

She and her husband, George R. Zammatore, owned and operated the former George's Hat Cleaning and shoe-shine business on South Fourth Street in Easton until 1950, a grocery store on Lehigh Street in Easton until 1954, and later owned and operated Georges Market on Thomas Street in Phillipsburg from 1954 until they retired in 1980.

Born October 5, 1919 in Easton, she was the daughter of the late Domenico and Marta Rotondo LaMotta.

She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church in Phillipsburg, where she was also a member of the Over-Fifties Club. She was also a member of St. Mary's Golden Age Club in Alpha, the Head Golden Age Club of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughter's of the America's, Court Warren 389, and the O'Donnell Apartment's Social Club in Phillipsburg. She also volunteered for the Warren County Nutrition Program in Phillipsburg for over eighteen years.

Mrs. Zammatore and her husband observed their sixtieth wedding anniversary April 30th.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Thomas A. of Harrison, NJ; two daughters, Roseann Affa of Phillipsburg and Sister Mary Martha Zammatore, O.S.F., of Antofagasta, Chile, South America; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Anthony and Joseph and a sister, Jennie Di Raimondo all died earlier.

Funeral services will be held 9:15 a.m. Saturday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 9:45 a.m. in St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Entombment will be in Holy Apostle's Mausoleum, Greenwich Twp., NJ. Calling hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
