Virginia Ann Griffin, 91, of Alpha, N.J., also lovingly known as "Red" and "Jean", passed away peacefully in her home October 23, 2020.

Born March 15, 1929, in Newark, NJ, she was the youngest daughter of the late George and Mary (Murtha) Jordan.

After graduating high school she worked in a movie theater, then worked as a clerk stenographer and lastly as a cashier at her local food store. Virginia raised her family in Roselle Park, NJ.

Virginia always started her day with a cup of hot coffee. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and competition, winning the ‘Miss Yankee Doodle Dandy’ beauty pageant in Newark, N.J. in 1948. She never missed an episode of Jeopardy or Judge Judy. When not watching TV, you could find her reading a book or doing word searches. Virginia loved sharing stories about her life and had a knack for remembering every detail. She cherished every moment she spent with her family and looked forward to their daily visits. Virginia never drove but you could always count on her to steer her family in the right direction.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Joseph E. Griffin; a son Joseph E. Griffin; two brothers Robert and George Jordan and sister Rosemary Sarni. Her spirit is carried on by her daughter Kathleen Adie and her husband James of Whitehouse Station, NJ; son Robert Griffin and his wife Jennie of Somerset, NJ; grandchildren Christopher and Bryan Adie, Cory, Kacey, Kevin and Connor Griffin and Kelli Campbell and 6 great-grandchildren. Virginia enjoyed the mutual love of her family and friends.

Visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St, Phillipsburg, NJ, Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Virginia will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ. We love you Gram.
