Ann Miller Obituary
Ann Bromley Miller, previously known as Ann Bromley Jennings, 75, of Stewartsville, NJ, formerly of Reno, NV, Houston, TX, Darien, CT, Shaker Heights, OH, Los Angeles, CA and Chatham, NJ, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, October 14, 2018.
Ann was born November 1, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio to Dr. Harry H. Bromley and Eleanor (Alcott) Bromley.
Ann graduated from Shaker Heights High School in Shaker Heights, OH in 1961; Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT in 1963; Milwaukee Downer College in Milwaukee, WI, and earned her BS degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI.
Ann was an occupational therapist at the King James Nursing Home, Chatham, NJ., and also self-employed. She retired in January of 2000 to care for her husband, Ken after he suffered a heart attack.
She was happy to have attended her 50th class reunions with her high school classmates in Shaker Heights, Ohio and Green Mountain College.
One of her proudest accomplishments was to be invited to sing for Pope John Paul II, along with her choir from Calvary Episcopal Church, Summit, NJ, in the Vatican in 1992. She was awed by the enormity of the Church itself and talked about it constantly.
Ann and her husband, Kenneth C. Miller observed their 18th wedding anniversary June 1, 2018. They’ve resided in Stewartsville for the past 13 years.
Ann volunteered countless hours for several railroad historical societies including the Friends of New Jersey Railroad and Transportation Heritage Center, Phillipsburg, and the National Board of the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society, where she served on the board of directors. She was a former delegate to the National Railroad Historical Society.
Ann was a chef on privately owned railroad cars that were attached to the rear of Amtrak trains, and accumulated over 70,000 miles of travel. She crossed the country 4 times and traveled by rail into Canada several times.
Recently, Ann was very involved with the restoration of the Phillipsburg Union Railroad Station, located on South Main St., Phillipsburg. She was also involved with the restoration of the Peoples Water Co. triple expansion steam powered water pump located in Lopatcong, NJ. She was active in local organizations, including the Phillipsburg Downtown Association, the Phillipsburg Area Historical Society, and the Washington Area Historical Society.
Ann was an avid runner, participating in many local racing events in northeastern New Jersey, culminating with completing the New York Marathon in her 40’s.
In addition to her husband, Ken, Ann is survived by her two children, Elizabeth Rosenheim (nee Jennings) and her husband, Matthew of Bethesda, MD., and Courtlandt Jennings of Ashland, OR. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Bromley and his wife, Gail of Cleveland, OH, and two grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel Rosenheim, and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St, Phillipsburg, NJ. A visitation period will begin at 1:30 p.m.
