Cora Leidy Obituary
Cora Frances Leidy, 96, of the Springtown section of Pohatcong Township, NJ, died peacefully, Sunday, March 11, 2012 in her home.
Cora was born July 31, 1915, on the Beers' homestead family farm in Harmony Township, which is now part of Merrill Creek. She was the only daughter of the late Harvey and Laura Cathers Beers.
She attend grade school in a one-room schoolhouse on Montana Mountain, Harmony Township, and graduated Belvidere High School in 1934. She graduated the Easton Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She worked as a registered nurse at Warren Hospital for 39 years, retiring in 1978. She also served as a private duty nurse.
She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, Lopatcong Township, NJ, she was a member of their ladies auxiliary.
Cora loved flowers and enjoyed being a member of the Easton Garden Club. She was a volunteer with the Norwescap R.S.V.P. program; she attended the Warren County Nutrition program; she was a member of the Phillipsburg Senior Center. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and tatting. Her family will remember her as a caring mom and gram and a compassionate mentor and friend.
Survivors include her daughter, Laura "Bev" Bowers and her husband, Russell, of Pohatcong Township; grandchildren, Laura Mulligan and her companion Darrell Huff; Troy Bowers and his wife, Erin; Melanie Olsen and her husband, Eric. Great-grandchildren, Taylor and Brooke Shafer, Matthew, Chelbie and Michael Bowers, and a niece, Linda Sholly and husband George. A brother, Roy, died in 1972.
Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Phillipsburg.
