Dorothy M. “Dottie” Marinelli, 80, of Lopatcong Township, died Tuesday, March 24, 2011 in Warren Hospital.
Born July 23, 1930 in Bethlehem, PA, she was the only child of the late Edmund F. and Hilda Mae Halleman Wagner.
Dottie was a 1949 graduate of Liberty High School, Bethlehem.
From 1944-45, she pitched softball for the Bethlehem Armorettes during the war, and at age 14, she traveled to the east side playgrounds to teach jump rope, for which she received a medal.
Dottie was a past president of the Sitgreaves School PTA, Phillipsburg, and was past chairwoman of the Phillipsburg Heart Fund; Warren Hospital’s Summer Fair and Christmas Bazaar; Phillipsburg Cancer Drive; Phillipsburg Unity Fund and the
Phillipsburg Community Development Program.
She formerly worked for Dr. Joseph T. Urban, of Easton and the Phillipsburg Board of Education as a substitute teacher caller, from 1976 into the 1980’s, and also was a substitute switchboard operator for the Town of Phillipsburg.
She was a member of Ss. Philip and James Roman Catholic Church, Phillipsburg, where she sang with the choir for 27 years.
Her husband, the late John J. Marinelli died earlier.
Survivors include three sons, Vincent Edmond G. and his wife, Deborah, of Bethlehem, Michael John J. and Johndavid G., both of Phillipsburg; eight grandchildren, Melinda, Kristopher, Amanda, Matthew, Autumn, Vincent Edmond, Jr, Tyler and Nicole; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Braydon.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St., Phillipsburg. Services will begin 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the church, 426 S. Main St, Phillipsburg.
