Frances G. "Franny" Osmun, of Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died peacefully Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in her home, 13 days shy of her 102 birthday, surrounded by loved ones.
Born March 25, 1910 in Port Morris, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. Groondyke and Otelia (Auerbach) Groondyke-Lozier.
A popular and athletic student of Roxbury High School, Sucasunna, NJ, she was a member of the Class of 1929.
She married Charles E. Osmun and moved to his parent's farm in Bethlehem Township in the 30's, where they didn't have electricity until the 40's. She loved ballroom dancing and traveling with friends, including New York City to shop. She took her first airplane trip to Las Vegas in her 70's.
Frances was the treasurer and chief financial officer for Bethlehem Township Municipality, Hunterdon County, NJ for thirty years, from 1962 to 1992. She also served as treasurer for the Bethlehem Township Elementary School, Bethlehem Township, New Jersey. She was also on the Election board for many years, retiring in her 90's.
She was a member and former Sunday school teacher for the United Methodist Church, West Portal, NJ; a member of the Bethlehem and Greenwich Township senior citizens and was the oldest member of the Asbury Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Robert D. and his wife, Barbara, of Bethlehem Township; a granddaughter, Corrine Osmun-Frost; two great-grandchildren, Heather Rose Frost and Charles Robert Frost. Also her dear friend and caregiver, Judy Ferrari. She is predeceased by her husband; a son Charles; a brother Benjamin F. and a granddaughter, Heather Louise Osmun.
A memorial service is planned at the West Portal Methodist Church, 319 Tunnel Road, Asbury, NJ at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2012.
