Helen Casey Obituary

Helen G. Casey, 102, of Lopatcong Township, NJ, died Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in the Brakeley Park Center, Lopatcong Township.

Born December 22, 1915 in Phillipsburg, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Gladis) Svachak. At the time of her death, Helen and two of her surviving sisters had a combined age of 302 years of age. They were featured in an article by the Express-Times April 23, 2017.

She graduated fourth in her class from Phillipsburg High School in 1933.

Helen worked for Ingersoll-Rand, Phillipsburg from 1933 to 1944.

She was raised in the St. Peter and St. Paul Greek Catholic Church in Phillipsburg prior to becoming a member of St. Philip and St. James Roman Catholic Church, Phillipsburg after her marriage.

Helen enjoyed painting, drawing, writing, watching Jeopardy and Wheel-of-Fortune. She was a long-time Notre Dame football fan.

Her husband of fifty-three years, the late William J. Casey, Sr. died March 1, 1997.

Helen's survivors include five sons, William J. Casey, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Lopatcong Twp., NJ, Charles E. Casey and his companion, Awilda Mora of Albuquerque, NM, Joseph P. Casey of Dallas, TX, Thomas A. Casey of Lopatcong Twp., NJ, Richard P. Casey and his wife, Charlene of Sunny Isles, FL; five daughters, Patricia A. Rice and her husband, Dr. Robert of Veazie, ME, Helen E. Giammarinaro and Mary E. Casey, both of Forks Twp., PA, Veronica B. George and her husband, Richard of Palmer Twp., PA, Ann Marie Flurer and her husband, Douglas of Nazareth, PA; two sisters, Ann Svachak and Mary Melick, both of Lopatcong Twp., NJ; 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren.

A daughter, Jean Casey-Wood, two sisters Verna Svachak and Catherine Miknyoczki and two brothers, Andrew and Nicholas Svachak, all preceded Helen in death.

Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 19, 2018 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St, Phillipsburg, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Philip and St. James Roman Catholic Church, 426 S. Main St, Phillipsburg. Entombment will be in Holy Apostles Mausoleum, Greenwich Township, NJ.

 Donations may be made to St. Philips and James Catholic Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
