Howard D. "Geezer" Solt, 80, of Harmony Township, NJ, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011 in his home.
Born May 1, 1931 in Phillipsburg, he was a son of the late William an Ruth Walters Solt.
He attended Phillipsburg High School, where he played football and was on the school's first wrestling team.
He joined the Army in 1948 and served until 1951 with the 82nd Airborne Division.
On April 30, 1960, he married Margaret Horvath, who remained his sweetheart for the next fifty-one years.
He was employed by the Carpenters Union, former Local 399, Phillipsburg.
He was a past president of the Harmony Township Athletic Association, where he was a little league baseball coach.
He was a member of the Italian American Pleasure Club, Phillipsburg
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Brian D. and his wife, Deborah, of White Township, NJ; a daughter, Lori Nicusanti and her husband, Keith, of Harmony Township; three grandchildren, Christine, Kevin and Jacob Solt. A son, Raymond A.; six brothers, William, Cornelius, Carl, Floyd, Raymond and Ralph, and five sisters, Florence Misrendino, Ruth Buchanan, Carrie Solt, Margaret "Peggy" Reilly and Carolyn Tuttle, all died earlier.
Visitation will be held, 3:00 to 5:00 Sunday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Phillipsburg. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday in the church, 300 Roseberry Street, Phillipsburg. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Phillipsburg. For more information, visit www.noto-wynkoop.com.
