James "Jim" Vincenzo Monteleone, 95, of Lopatcong Township, formerly of Oxford, NJ, died October 17, 2023.
Born "Vincenzo James Monteleone" on June 1, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ, he was a son of the late Pietro and Emma (Prestia) Monteleone.
He served in the U.S.C.G. Merchant Marines during WWII and served on the beaches of Normandy.
He was a self-employed carpenter most of his life and also worked for Glen Gardner Borough, NJ as Supervisor of Public Works.
Jim enjoyed bowling, boating, fishing and visiting Atlantic City and tinkering around his house.
Jim and his wife, the former Gertrude "Trudy" Nelson observed their 65 wedding anniversary this past May.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by two sons, Thomas of Jacksonville, FL, and James V. Monteleone, Jr. of Toms River, NJ; three daughters, Sheri Nehila and her husband Brian of Easton, PA, Francine Haring and Debbie Fulper of Phillipsburg; three brothers, Anthony, Alfred and John of New York; eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. A son, James P. Monteleone, a grandson, Frederick "Freddy" Fulper, two brothers, Dominick and Peter and two sisters, Anna Branham and Mary Tormanio all died earlier.
Burial with military honors will be held 1:30 pm, November 13, 2023 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
