Joanne DeThomas, 75, of Phillipsburg, died Thursday, January 28, 2016.
Born December 9, 1940 in Phillipsburg, she was a daughter of the late Angelo and Josephine (Frinzi) DeThomas.
Joanne graduated Phillipsburg High School in 1958. She then earned her bachelors degree at Moravian College in 1962 and her masters degree from Lehigh University in 1968. She also attended Kean College.
Joanne was employeed as a teacher with the Nazareth School District and then worked as a teacher at the Holland Township Elementary School until she retired in 1990. She owned and operated Corner Campus Day Care in Phillipsburg from 1991 to 1996.
She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg. She was also a member of the New Jersey Teachers Association, the Retired Teachers Association, the Phillipsburg High School Class of 1958 Reunion Committee and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Warren 358.
Survivors include two nieces, Lorraine Ruggiero and her husband Dominic G. of Palmer Twp., Pa and Lori Sleeper and her husband, Alan of Mount Laurel, NJ; two nephews, David Nattress and his wife Deborah of Lopatcong Twp, NJ and Robert R. DeThomas; great nieces and nephews, Dominic and Marissa Ruggiero and Garrett, Dylan and Morgan McDivitt. A brother, Robert R. DeThomas and a sister, Jeanette Nattress both died earlier.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m., Monday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main Street, Phillipsburg, NJ. Funeral services will begin 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m. in the church, 426 South Main St, Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, Greenwich Township, NJ.
