John J. Bodai, 92, of Oceanside, NY, formerly of Phillipsburg, NJ, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the home of his daughter, Terry. A life-long resident of New Jersey, he had been living recently, along with his wife Ann, at his daughter's home on Long Island.
Born January 14, 1920 in the Brainards section of Harmony Township, NJ, he was a son of the late Louis and Barbara Koleszar Bodai.
John was an avid quoits player for 30 years in the Easton City Quoit League, and also for the Phillipsburg Eagles, Triple City Quoit League and was a Past President of the Varsity P Association. He attended Belvidere High School and was a graduate of the class of 1938. John retired as equipment manager on the athletic staff at Lafayette College, Easton, PA, in 1985. He had also worked as a machinist at Sanco Piece and Dye Works and Ingersoll Rand, both in Phillipsburg.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alpha, NJ.
John and his wife, the former Ann Bertha, observed their 70th wedding anniversary on April 18, 2012. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dale and his wife Brenda of Saylorsburg, PA; two daughters, Shirley Fink Johnson and her husband Thomas of Phillipsburg, and Terry Holloway and her husband Henry, of Oceanside, NY. His sister Pearl, and her husband Henry, of Palm Coast, FL, is the sole remaining sibling. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Elizabeth, Rose, Irene, and Olga, and his brother Louis.
John leaves behind seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a cousin.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m to 10:30 a.m. at the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home in Phillipsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, in St. Mary's Church, Fifth Ave, Alpha. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
