Jon Peter "Pete" Terp, 76, of Palmerton, PA, formerly of Phillipsburg and Bloomsbury, NJ; died Sunday, August 5, 2012 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, PA.
Born May 12, 1936 in Plainfield, NJ, he was a son of the late Henry M. and Genevieve M. (Newham) Terp Schuster.
He graduated Morristown High School in 1955.
Pete owned and operated Pufferbelly's Train Shop in Jim Thorpe, Pa for the past six years. He formerly owned and operated Viking Auto Supply in Phillipsburg from 1977 to 1996 and was an engineer at Land of Make Believe in Hope, NJ.
Pete dedicated himself to preserving railroad history and was the founder and first president of the Phillipsburg Railroad Historians, Phillipsburg. He was a member of the National Railway Historical Society and was a past president of their Jersey Central Chapter and was the current secretary of the Lehigh Valley Chapter.
He was vice-chairman of the Lower Towamensing (PA) Planning Commission.
Pete is survived by his wife, the former Robin A. Meyers DaSilva; four sons, Jon Peter Terp, Jr. of Pen Argyl, PA, William Henry Terp of Orefield, PA, Scott Terp of Palmerton and Brian DaSilva of Palmer Township, PA; six daughters, Sandra Terp of Asbury, NJ, Johanna Kappus of Milford, NJ, Nancy Wombacher of Stewartsville, NJ, Ann Plummer of Bangor, PA, Mary Terp of Macungie, PA and Krystle DaSilva of Phillipsburg; a sister, Doris Nixon of Hilton Head, SC and 9 grandchildren. A brother, Donald died earlier.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Phillipsburg. Burial will be private in the Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.
