Joseph C. Hoadley, Jr., 88, of Phillipsburg, died Friday, March 8, 2013 in the Phillipsburg Center.
Born September 7, 1924 in Phillipsburg, he was a son of the late Joseph C. Sr, and Maybelle Cowell Hoadley.
He was a corporal in the Marine Corps, serving during World War Two.
On his twenty-second birthday, in 1946, Joseph married Bertha Jean Beers. They were married for sixty-five years until her death in 2011.
Joseph formerly worked for American Can, Washington, NJ; Ingersoll-Rand - Turbo Division, Phillipsburg; and as a deliveryman for Bill Swick's Liquor Store and Norton Cork and Bottle, both in Phillipsburg.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Greenwich Township, NJ. He was a life member of the Chesapeake Marine Corps League Detachment 853, Chesapeake, VA; the Bernardine-May American Legion Post, Phillipsburg, and the Huntington Volunteer Fire Company, Pohatcong Township, NJ. He formerly served as a midget baseball coach in Pohatcong Township, and he enjoyed playing pinochle and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph C., III and his wife, Wanda, of Chesapeake, VA, James W., of Beach Lake, Pa, and Robert S. and his wilfe Melissa, of Saylorsburg, Pa; two daughters, Deborah M. Grube and her husband Donald, of Pohatcong Township and Mary J. Pacenti and her husband, Edward, of Big Timbers, MT; three brothers, Larry and his wife, Mary Jane, of Easton and Donald and Robert, both of Phillipsburg; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. A son, John L., and a daughter-in-law, Jan Marie; two sisters, Genevieve Young and Catherine Armbruster and four brothers, Charles, Clarence, Sterling and Raymond, two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, all died earlier.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Phillipsburg. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Greenwich Township, NJ. Online condolences may be submitted by visiting www.noto-wynkoop.com.
