Maria Antoinette Pizzari, 93, of Alpha, NJ, passed away October 26, 2015.
Born March 21, 1922 in Phillipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Frances Viscomi Piperata.
She was a 1939 graduate of Phillipsburg High School. Maria worked as a key punch operator for Ingersoll-Rand in Phillipsburg for thirty-eight years before retiring in 1982. She also worked for many years with the Board of Elections, enjoying the camaraderie with co-workers while covering polling stations during the election days.
She was a life-long member of St. Philip and St. James Roman Catholic Church in Phillipsburg; the Over-Fifties Club of the church; Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Warren 389; St. Mary's Golden Age Club and the Phillipsburg Chapter of A.A.R.P. She had an extremely kind and giving nature, always putting everyone before herself. This included taking on extra roles within the clubs she belonged to.
Her husband of sixty-six years, Philip A. Pizzari passed away on January 5, 2013.
Surviving Maria include her three daughters, Sandra L. Burkhart and fiancee Michael Sheeran, of Alpha, Frances A. Lewis of Charlotte, NC and Ann Marie Hanes and husband Michael of Murietta, CA; her brother, Alfred Piperata and wife Barbara of West Trenton, NJ, grandchildren Chad Elliott Burkhart of Bridgeville, PA and Jason Craig Lewis and wife Kathleen of Miami, FL and many nieces and nephews. Maria always made sure that when her grandsons visited, their favorite treats were ready for them.
Her siblings, including her brothers, Frank and Dominick Piperata and sisters, Gloria Fahringer and Theresa Celia have all predeceased her.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St, Phillipsburg, NJ. Services will begin 9:15 a.m., Saturday in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the church, 426 South Main St, Phillipsburg, NJ. Burial will be in St. Philip and St. James Cemetery
