Millard "Mel" J. Butler, 79, of Lopatcong Township, NJ, died October 23, 2022 peacefully at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, with his family by his side.
Born September 4, 1943 in Jersey City, NJ, he was a son of the late Martin and Beulah (Starner) Butler.
Mel was a shop operations manager at the former Ingersoll-Rand, Phillipsburg. After his retirement, he served as the superintendent of the machine shop at Penn Iron Works. Inc. Reading, PA.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church (Straw Church) in Greenwich Township, NJ.
He was a founding member of the Pohatcong Township Recreation Association and was a former youth football coach in Pohatcong. He was a life member and former Captain of the Huntington Volunteer Fire Co., Pohatcong Township, NJ; the New Jersey State Firemen's Relief Association; he was a former Warren County Board of Elections Poll Worker; He was a social member of the Safety First Fire Company, Wilson Borough, PA and was a active member of the United States Power Squadron. He also was a former boating instructor at Northampton County Community College.
Mel had a special love for his family, grandchildren, boating, friends and his beloved Golden Retriever, Daisy.
Mel and his wife, the former Barbara Samer, observed their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary on October 3rd.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James and his wife Tara of Stewartsville, NJ; two daughters, Rebecca Butler of Lopatcong Township and Mary Ann Carducci and her husband, Joseph of Lopatcong Township; a sister, Myrna Pursel and her husband Leo of Forks Township; grandchildren Mark, Emily and Anna Carducci and Ryan, Julia, Avery and Emma Butler; a sister-in-law, Ella May Butler and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Alfred and Myron both died earlier.
Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S. Main Street, Phillipsburg, NJ. www.noto-wynkoop.com. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday in the St. James Lutheran Church, 1213 Rt. 22, Phillipsburg.
