Pietrina “Beatrice” Russo, 94, of Lopatcong Twp, NJ, died Monday, November 18, 2013 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ, surrounded by her family.
Born May 25, 1919 in New York City, NY, she was a daughter of the late Jerome and Nunzia Riolo Camarda.
Her husband, the late Ernest W. “Babe” Russo, Esq., died June 23, 1998.
She was a member of Saint Philip and Saint James Roman Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.
In her twenties, Beatrice studied to be an opera singer, and sang on the radio. Her favorite song to sing was Ava Maria and she sang whenever people requested her to. She was an excellent Italian cook, and was especially known for her red stuffed peppers. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and entertaining at the family pool.
Survivors: Two daughters, Nancy Russo and companion, Karl V. Fluck, III and Geraldine Russo Light and spouse, Michael; a son, Richard and his wife, Claire; two grandsons, Michael J. Light, II and Joseph M. Light and a granddaughter, Grace Marie Russo; a brother, Peter Camarda, and her loving Poodle, “Pooch”. Four sisters, Sebastina Williams, Anna Onnembo, Nancy Alice, Anna Marie Vinscotski and a brother, Vincent, all died earlier.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday in Saint Philip and Saint James R.C. Church, 426 S. Main St, Phillipsburg, NJ. There will be no viewing hours. Entombment will be in Holy Apostles Mausoleum, Greenwich Township, NJ.
