Richard H. "Dick" Hovell, Jr., 82, of Alpha, formerly of Ventnor, NJ, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 7, 2014 in Phillipsburg, NJ.
Born February 5, 1932 in Atlantic City, NJ, he was the only son of the late Richard H. and Emma Rice Hovell.
Dick was a plumber and steamfitter for the Plumbers-Pipefitters Union, Local 322, Winslow, NJ most of his life, until his retirement in 1994.
He served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War.
He was a long-time member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Northfield, NJ, and most recently, worshiped at River of Life Presbyterian Church, Phillipsburg, after moving to Alpha, NJ a year ago.
Dick and the love of his life, the former Angela M. Gitto, observed their 61st wedding anniversary April 18th.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard H. III, of Alpha, NJ; a daughter, Terrie Goretti and her husband, John, of Phillipsburg, NJ; two grandchildren, Jessica Whipple and her husband, Enoch and Jordan and his wife, Crystal and three grandchildren, Lily, Silas and Olivia Whipple. Two sisters, Dorothy Mann and Doris Stallings died earlier.
He was grateful for the many kind neighbors in Ventnor who were a part of his life for 55 years.
A celebration of Dick's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2014 in the River of Life Presbyterian Church, 445 S. Main St, Phillipsburg, NJ.
