Shirley Constance Comito, 85, of Palmer Township, formerly of Phillipsburg NJ, died Sunday, November 20, 2022, in her daughter’s home with family by her side.
Shirley was born on April 16, 1937, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Constance Gregory.
Shirley was predeceased by her two sisters Doris Piper and Edna Decker and her two brothers Russel and Douglas Gregory.
Shirley was a member of St Philip and St James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg, NJ.
Shirley came to the USA when she was 18 years old and met the love of her life Anthony. She worked in Phillipsburg as a young woman as a seamstress and a presser, as her family had roots in the garment industry. During that time, she also studied and became certified to sell stocks and bonds for a brief time. She utilized her sewing skills and for a long time was an independent businesswoman making and selling a variety of items for wear and in the home. This career choice sparked her journey in sales and later became a successful saleswoman. She worked at Star Pontiac for 17 years. After her retirement, she returned to her schooling and became a home health aide. She worked for Visiting Homemakers and Home Instead for 14 years. She retired a second time at age 80.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Anthony D. Comito of Palmer Township; a son, Gregory Comito and his wife Cynthia of Essex Fells NJ; two daughters, Toni Lynn Melhem and her husband Maynard of Palmer Township and Terri Comito of Palmer Township, with whom Shirley and her husband resided, as well as her brother and sister in law, Dominic and Virginia Comito.
Shirley also leaves behind her adored nieces and nephews; Dominic Comito, Christine Dorner, and Nancy Hefele. Roxanne, Tracy, Anthony, Stephen, and Douglas Gregory. Kenneth, Stanley, and Daniel Goit.
Additionally, she leaves her beloved grandchildren, Sabrina and Nicholas Melhem, Gregory and Ryan Comito.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am, on December 3, 2022 at St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, 430 S Main St, Phillipsburg, NJ. There will be no calling hours.
